Know before you go

Everything for a smooth safari

Visas

All tourists must apply online at visas.immigration.go.ug; only travellers with approved visas are granted entry. A single-entry visa costs USD 50, or the East Africa tourist visa costs USD 100.

Airports & Airlines

Most guests arrive by air at Entebbe International Airport; the drive to and from Kampala takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour. We organise airport transfers for groups of any size. Uganda is serviced by Uganda Airlines, Kenya Airways, RwandAir, Ethiopian, Emirates, KLM, Qatar, Turkish and more, with domestic hops on Aerolink, Eagle Air and Fly KEA.

Climate

Average temperatures range between 21°C and 31°C year-round, with two rainy seasons (March–May and October–November). Mountainous areas can drop to 10°C. Lodges remain open all year.

Health & Vaccinations

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for all travellers. Consider Hepatitis B, Meningitis, Rabies and Typhoid cover, and speak to your doctor about anti-malarials. Bring all personal medication and adequate travel and medical insurance. Drink bottled or boiled water only.

Currency

The currency is the Uganda Shilling; US Dollars, GB Pounds and Euros are readily exchangeable, with larger US Dollar bills attracting the best rates.

What to Pack

  • Cotton clothing with a cardigan or jacket for general areas; waterproof jacket, walking boots and warm layers for the mountains.
  • Camera, charger, spare batteries, memory cards and binoculars.
  • UK-style 3-pin or universal travel adapter.
  • Insect repellent and long sleeves for after sunset.
Gorilla tracking in Uganda
The signature experience

Gorilla Tracking

Gorilla tracking is demanding and requires good physical fitness. Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers lead each group, and porters are available (approx. USD 15) to carry your belongings. Minimum age is 15 years; anyone with a transmissible illness cannot participate.
